Slacker Manager

Free For All Friday…coming up

by Bren on August 23rd, 2006

This coming Friday (August 25, 2006) I’m going to do a little experiment with Slacker Manager. The first post of the day will include a link where you can register as an author on Slacker Manager. I’ll leave this link live all day long and allow unfettered access to publishing posts to the blog. That means that anyone can register and publish to Slacker Manager all day on Friday.

I don’t want complete anarchy on the blog, but neither do I want to moderate each post. So I’ll be asking would-be contributors to adhere to a loose set of guidelines:

  1. Keep it business-oriented. That’s broad enough to include productivity, technology, management, books, etc. You know, the kind of stuff you read here. Just with your own voice.
  2. No profanity. I’m not opposed to a bit of colorful language, but our definitions of “a bit” probably vary, so I’ll just ask that contributors refrain entirely.
  3. Use some humor. It’ll be Friday, everyone needs a little chuckle.
  4. One per person, please. Don’t flog us with multiple posts. Make one good one and let the next person take a swing.

Note to PR people and product pimpers in general: Feel free to post along with the masses. I ask only that you stick to the guidelines above and try not to sound like a press release. If you sound like a press release, I’ll probably delete the post. You’ve got a whole day to work on not sounding like a press release. Use it wisely.

One last note in case it’s not already clear. Unfettered means unmoderated, but it doesn’t mean uncensored. If I deem a post inappropriate for the general audience of Slacker Manager, it’ll be deleted.

Cool? Cool.

This should be really fun and I’m looking forward to seeing whether anyone shows up and what they’ll say! If you’ve thought about blogging but have been a little intimidated by technology or whatever, give this a try. You’ll be using the venerable Wordpress system to publish posts and it’s pretty self-explanatory. If you’re already a business blogger and you’d like to reach a slightly different audience, step up! Feel free to do a summary of one of your own best posts, with a link back to the original. Totally cool. Let’s see what you’ve got.

Hi Bren - For those of use in another time zone (namely Australia) when on Friday will you be posting your invitation (just so that I can sychronise watches and know whether to post on Friday night or Saturday morning our time)

This looks like it will be a lot of fun. Hope you don’t get too slammed though. :)

@Leah: I’ve got the post scheduled to fire off at 1am PST/9am GMT.

@Brad: Yeah, I hope I don’t get too slammed either. If it turns into a spamfest, I’ll know not to do it again, I guess. :-)
